The Revolution Has Been Televised
“…The revolution will not be televised
Will not be televised
Will not be televised
Will not be televised
The revolution will be no re-run, brothers
The revolution will be live” - Gil Scott-Heron - “The Revolution Will Not be Televised”
It’s not even been a week yet, and already the Republicans are out in force trying to normalize the Trump Riot. The excuses and rationalizations are flying fast and furious. And, oh, by the way, we should not stress about it. Just make believe it never happened and move on.
After all, we have to unify the country.
Urgggh!!!
Anyway, back to the normalizations:
It wasn’t really a riot, it was a protest that got out of hand. (No, it was an actual riot)
They were just expressing their First Amendment rights (No, they were rioting)
It wasn’t the MAGAts that were protesting, it was the ANTIFA infiltrators (No, the MAGAts rioted, unless ANTIFA spent a shitload of money on MAGAt merchandise just to blend it)
People are bored. What with the pandemic and lockdowns and all, they needed to let off some steam. (So they rioted?)
My favorite excuse is the last one – the rioters were bored.
According to Linda Metcalf, a professor at Texas Wesleyan University and the director of their graduate counseling programs, blame it on the isolation of 2020.
“People may feel traumatized after the last 10 months because of COVID-19, and those feelings may drive them to make a statement,” the professor told the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
It should be noted the professor is a family and marriage counselor. So how that qualifies her to opine on rioting and treason is beyond me.
But, back to her thoughts on the Trump Riot.
“Protesting may help them to feel part of something when the world feels like it is falling apart,” she told the paper.
If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. (No it doesn’t).
I can just imagine Robespierre in 1792 sitting around with his buddies, sipping some French wine and munching on a baguette, bored out of his mind.
“I’m bored,” he tells them. “Let’s go do a revolution. Who’s up for storming the Bastille?”
Of course, all this was said in French, considering how they were French and all.
The professor noted that when things get out of control, people look for something that will bring back some normality to their lives.
“I think many people went [to the Trump Riot] because they were grappling for something familiar,” she noted.
Sure, insurrection, treason and rioting are familiar to these people. Breaking into a federal building intent on hanging some politicians gives these miscreants comfort.
WTF!
Don’t kid yourselves. These people weren’t bored. They were empowered. By Trump and his minions and the bullshit that the election was stolen from them.
They weren’t protesting, they were overthrowing the government because things didn’t go the way they wanted them to.
They committed treason based on a lie and their hurt feelings.
Maybe we should feel sorry for them for being such stupid dupes?
Nah!
They deserve to be locked away for a long time.
