In 1973, the company that manufactured Hush Puppies shoes, released a television commercial with the tagline, “Dear, Hush Puppies. Your shoes are really dumb.” It was, well, kind of dumb, but it worked.
Today, we can say the same about the mainstream media. They’re kind of dumb. And they’re getting dumber. Apparently, critical thinking is no longer taught in journalism school.
Why else would we get such stupid shit like this, from the web site Mediaite, about a segment on CNN.
“CNN anchor Dana Bash, on Sunday, confronted Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about a racist conspiracy theory which has been peddled by former President Donald Trump,” Mediaite wrote.
First of all, why would you “confront” the Homeland Security Secretary about a conspiracy theory being floated by crazy MAGAs? Characterizing the interview as “confronting” Secy. Mayorkas plants the idea in the viewer’s mind that the “theory” might have some kernel of validity, when it has absolutely none.
As for Dana Bash of CNN, she can’t be that stupid, can she? I hope she knows that the whole “replacement theory” bullshit is just that, bullshit. She also knows, I hope, that migrants can’t vote until they become citizens. Unless President Biden is playing the long game. Any migrant that enters the U.S. today probably won’t be able to vote for about 25 years, when and if they become citizens. Maybe President Biden is pinning his hopes on that?
It’s stupid. Doesn’t make any sense. And it’s not worth the airtime. So why waste time asking a cabinet official about it?
It’s the kind of journalism you’d expect from the conservative media network NewsMax, not CNN. In fact, NewsMax did do this exact segment, letting Trump attorney Alina Habba spout the very same bullshit theory.
That’s bad enough. But what’s worse is that many of the sites that covered this story either missed entirely, or chose to ignore, the one, key element – that migrants cannot vote. You have to be a citizen to vote in a federal election in this country. So President Biden can import as many non-citizens as he likes, but none of them can vote for him in November, or anytime after, unless and until they become citizens.
These journalists presumably know this. But, then again, maybe they don’t. And that’s a scary thought.
The Mediaite story on the NewsMax segment did mention, parenthetically in the last paragraph of the story, that this theory was “(unlawful and non-possible).”
But the majority of the coverage treated the story as if it were not only possible, but likely to happen, presumably because President Biden is so old and no one plans to vote for him because of his support for the war in Israel.
The media should be covering more important stories, rather than wasting time on the stupid stuff that winds its way through the internet. The dumbing down of the media is bad for us all.
Here's another one for you: there was a big to-do a couple weeks ago about a survey where a large majority agreed 'The US is moving in the wrong direction' and it was media-promoted as a bad sign for Biden. Today I was hit with a survey asking the same question. And I answered 'yes' because Trump's popularity is the wrong direction! None of the media outlets referenced how the survey was worded!!!
Can we just get rid of all the polls and 'professional opinions?'
